Got our GHIC cards

Arrived today after about three weeks. Simple online process ...not planning to go yet but easy to forget to get them..our EHIC expired Jan 2021.

We tried to get GHIC cards but we're declined because of our Spanish residency ?

Maybe because I am not yet an S1 holder ?

You can’t claim your GHIC till after your S1 has been registered with your health provider. I got my S1 last month and am waiting for the French CPAM to register it before I can apply for mine .
I do have an EU EHIC card though.

Yes I think I came to same conclusion. Our EHIC s expire before I get my S1 but have private medical as a consequence of Spanish residency.Just another reason not to come back to UK this summer as limit outside of Spain quite low.

S1 ?

An S1 form is a healthcare certificate that entitles you and any dependants to healthcare in another EU country on the same basis as a resident of that country. The S1 is applicable to those who are resident in an EU country, UK residents cannot apply. You can apply for one when you reach state retirement age.
