Tried to stop at Mabie Forest, but confused by parking system...POIs don’t mention this. Has anyone figured out the Parking Eye payment system used in these car parks? They give an all day rate of £3 but don’t say whether this stops at midnight or is for 24 hours. It doesn’t specifically ban overnight stay. Do you have to leap out of bed at midnight to pay again. Need to be sure as they capture number plates with CCTV. Are many FC. carparks using this system? We had planned on using quite a lot of FC POIs

Make sure you get it right IF parking eye are involved ....they would fine their own grandma for anything the possibly could .

Think it would state 24 hours if that were the case so would expect it to finish at midnight

I know little about FC Scotland, but I know the car parking at Glenmore is run by them.

I wonder if the daily parking rate might apply to the opening/closing hours of the visitor centre only?

If you use the car parks a lot, what about an annual permit? Puts a bit back in and gets round the hated Parking Eye conundrum .

Cheers

You were at one of the Seven Stanes car parks which are cycle centres and charge a premium for trail building and maintenance. Normal FC car parks are mostly free to use. I would ask at bike shop regarding parking.

Can you get permits for forestry commission Scotland car parks. I’d be more than happy to pay up to legitimise parking at them.

The good thing about Scotland is the relevant section of the Protection of Freedoms Act, 2012 doesn't apply in Scotland per se, in that the registered keeper of a vehicle has no obligation to name the person who parked the vehicle anywhere in Scotland controlled by these private companies. In England and Wales YOUR corrupt politicians gave private parking companies more power than the Police in this regard as they cannot require a keeper to name the driver for a parking offence. Someone parked my car (I was in Spain at the time - could even have been a rung plate )in a park and fell foul of Parking Eye. They started with a penalty notice, then another increasing the penalty, then more, then some bent English solicitor wrote me threatening court action, I'd never get credit again, I'd have to pay thousands in court fees. What a clown. They've given up on me now after some 2 years of harassment. I know someone may come on and highlight the Dundee case where a woman had to pay over £20000 in charges, but that was different as the parking patrols on a gated community saw her parking every day and a) got to know her and b) she admitted it. They are not allowed to photograph you personally, only the vrm of your vehicle. I'm not suggesting for a moment that anyone should flout the rules, just giving you some information in case you overstay somewhere by mistake.

Not been for a while, if you take FC at Loch Morlich, I'm sure ticket purchase (£2) expires at Midnight?

Could be Terry.

Have you come across the parking place at Allt Mor, apparently free for 24 hours.

If it has a parking meter but nothing about times, HOW are you supposed to know,? -If it said no overnight parking, fine, you would know where you stood,

Isnt there an expiry time on the ticket, usually a parking charge that states all day ends at midnight.

Forestry Commission

It seems I have answered my own question. At first I tried using the alleged tel no on the notice for Parking Eye. It was unavailable. Later I discovered a number for the Forestry Commission on another sign *0300 067 6900‬, and called that. A very helpful lady told me that they have kicked Parking Eye into touch, and until such time as they re-tender for another operatator that are running the carparks themselves. We are welcome to stay overnight. Payment is £3 per calendar day (not 24hours). You can pay for 2 days by buying 2 tickets the first day, their wardens are instructed to recognise this as an overnight stay.

I like several Forestry Commission car parks. Very glad that they have given Parking Eye the boot, I never shop at Aldi because they use them.

One thing I like about Scotland FC car parks = they tend to be very relaxed, and only call in the rules if there are problems (eg Neds taking stolen cars in and then burning them).

I will be staying on FC land tomorrow night, and know I wont have any problems, by being sensible, courteous and respectful (It will also need 4WD to get deep into the forest!).

Dave.

Hi Rob, sorry, not familiar with Allt Mor, google maps takes me to within Aviemore itself, is this correct?

Ally Mor is just out of Glenmore on the left as you start to head up the hill. It’s in the forest hidden away with no views apart from trees and midge hell in the summer.

I use loch An Eilean. You have to pay but there are nice toilets and you can empty and fill up at Rothimurcus camp site if needed. A hidden wee gem tucked away out the road with lovely walks and lots of wildlife and the Rangers are very helpfull and friendly.
