Ducato . Thule bike rack help

Hi all.
Bought a thule bike rack .
Instructions are crap. So has any one fitted a xt van rack, if so did you stick the rubbers on the mounting plates to the van . I've stuck the rubbers to the mounting plates but unsure if the rubbers get stuck to the van or it's just the rubbers alone that friction stick themselves to the van.
Any help before I make a #uck up.

Sometimes we all have a dopey moment, I've just had one.
Spent an hour with white spirit getting adhesive off, my hands are sore and black, wish I'd got clear adhesive.
Lesson learnt ,advice to all, read ALL the bloody instructions first before jumping in.
