Drinking Alcohol

Good Morning,

At home, I usually have a beer of an evening and quite often a glass of wine too.

When we're away in the van I only drink zero alcohol beverages. Some of the 0% lagers are not at all bad (can't say the same for the wine, unfortunately).

I notice in various posts on here and WC though that quite a few people seem to be quite happily imbibing.

I'm assuming that they're not all careering around the roads in a drunken stupor the following morning so my question is -

What do people really do? How late do they drink? how late do they set off in the morning?

Not looking to nail people down or get anyone into trouble, just wondered what peoples views/experience was.

Regards

Phill

Annie ... will let you go first 😂

In all seriousness though we are careful my husband drives for a living and we wouldn't do anything to risk his licence. He wouldn't drink the night before we travelled home, and we do carry the small breathalyser strips, but we never had the need to use them because our common sense just takes over.

Ok Jac 😂 but in all honesty apart from one occasion in all my years of driving I try not to drink the night before driving reason I love driving, it’s the journey that makes most trips for me and having had 4 years with my RA where I couldn’t drive and I hated every single moment of it so loosing my licence is my worst nightmare.
Jac the night before the night before well all bets are off 😂😂

Ah well, that makes sense. Unfortunately, we rarely stay anywhere longer that one night as we also love the touring. I guess I'll just have to stick with 0% stuff

No difference from being in the house . Couple of glasses of wine , usually earlyish to bed , usually lateish start in morning .

There is a great difference between having a glass of beer and wine in the evening with a meal and careering around the roads in a drunken stupor the following morning.

However, as always there is a simple solution for the cautious motorhomer.

1] Put advert in exchange & mart for a teetotal wife with driving licence.

2] Marry.

3] Buy motorhome and register in said wifes name.

4] If you then get the dreaded knock on the van door whilst imbibing you can smile have another swig and explain that you are just a passenger
with no resposibilities.

Simples.

Dezi :camper:  ps Try not to hiccup.

i never drink when travelling in my van. i do at home. i dont miss it when out and about.

We don't drink if wild camping; except for pub stops, where it would be churlish not to avail ourselves of the facilities and we have a couple each with our meal. On campsites, we might share a bottle of wine in the evening. So no more than 6 units each and we never have an early start.

Don't drink if we are wild camping.

If on an aire/Brit stop/CL or somewhere official then we will have a drink because there is an option to leave later.Or have a drink earlier in the evening and finish drinking earlier.

It's the same as being at home you wouldn't drink if you were leaving home early the next day.

Apparently it takes one hour per unit of alcohol to clear the system, so it pays to do the mathematics.

And that's only part of the story, Age, gender ,build, sleep last time you ate all play a part too

I learnt a long time ago motorcycles and alcohol don't mix

If we are wildcamping we don’t drink but we don’t drink that much now because of meds and as being said if we’re on a site we might have a drink!

We stayed on a site on Thursday ..
I'm still recovering now

Ha ha. My wife doesn't drink at all so that is a plan if stopped whilst consuming. That said she doesn't drive unless she has to either so in the absence of any imperitive it would be me driving in the morning.

Maybe we need to be setting out later.

On a different subject, but not entirely unrelated, we do often comment at the number of vans we see at the side of the road/in laybyes with their night blinds still closed at late morning/lunchtime and wonder how anyone can sleep that late. Actually, maybe that's not so un-related

So , basically , 2-3 glasses of wine . Bed at 10 , set off at 10 the following morning , pretty safe .

I had the great good fortune to fall for a lass who turned out to be a better driver and enjoyed driving more than me..

She rarely drinks more than a small glass of wine and is a joy to share a bottle with.

.
Bless her.. even on the few occasions that she might be wrong... She's right, in my opinion.

It’s not a problem to those of us who rarely ever drink. I give a good impersonation of a drunk just when walking normally.
