Cordless tyre inflator

I wonder why so many people have given it positive feedback? inflating balloons, footballs?

Maybe not for me then.

Inflating a van tyre is very different to a car tyre of course.

I have the same Inflator as hairydog. Out of interest I tried to use my Jump Start (14400Ah battery) pack to power it to see how it would cope. Nah.

I must admit I had my doubts that a battery powered pump could blow up a motorhome tyre but one of the comments was a Tugger with 65psi tyres. Not quite the same but thats what ours normally run at.

As you say

65 PSI is good enough...
Maybe get to 50 or so and then recharge or enough to get you to a garage etc

and at that price worth a punt !
Other features handy as well.

If tyre really flat call breakdown

It has a 12v 1500mAh battery.
My Ring 900 tyre inflator draws just under 20 amps at 12v so with that size of battery, it could run for up to* about 4 minutes. Almost long enough to blow a flat tyre up if you are lucky.

*a marketing term meaning "much less than"

Probably plenty good enough then to get you to the next station to fully inflate it if just short on psi.

As far as limping along to the next fuel station (that can be over 40 miles away for me on some of my normal trips), do you rely on the accuracy of the gauge on the air hose?

Might just be easier to just get something that will do the job fully in the first place?

A lot of filling station pumps(those that have them) will not get to 80psi, which is a common pressure for rear axle tyres on most MHs.

Better to go to a tyre fitter and drop them a drink.

I've wasted plenty of money on cheap pumps with plastic cylinders and pistons that don't last 5 minutes.
Eventually got a T-Max pump much used by 4x4 folk.....about 80 quid and worth every penny. Has metal piston and cylinder ...0.7 HP 12v motor and will inflate truck tyres up to 150 psi. .... certainly does the 22.5's to 115 psi on my camper.. should outlast me, I'm hoping it'll be the last one I have to buy. ...... buy cheap, buy twice !!! (or more!!)

If you have a very flat tyre then jacking up at the wheel can take some of the strain on your pump. You are not then lifting up the vehicle weight.

no

but it might get you home, half cocket, here to a happy blow up,pj

Service stations

You cannot rely on Fuel service stations even on M-ways to get sufficient PSI for motorhomes.

One of my tyres was a bit low and I tried a M-way service station ...
Not enough psi so in fact I lost some pressure ! ( fortunately so little that I could continue and get tyres fully inflated at the next.

If you have a really flat tyre then I suspect the battery inflator would not get you up to say 65PSI
SO call breakdown.
This device might well be useful for weekly maintenance of tyres topping up from say 55 to 65 etc
Somebody needs to buy one and test it
Both for pressure performance and battery life and charging time !

Or perhaps Phil (admin) could add one to his trailer Kit used at meets ?

Ok, this would be my take .....

The features .... cordless. Assuming you are pumping up a tyre attached to your motorhome you are likely no more than 8 metres absolute maximum from a 12V power source, so why is being cordless such a benefit?
It will pump up the tyre some of the way.... Sounds a bit like buying a cooker that will cook most of your dinner but you have to go to the neighbours to borrow their oven to finish it off.
If you have a need for a tyre inflator, what on earth is the point of buying one that you know is almost certainly not capable of doing the job? Especially when you also know there are others available that will.

I've had two flat (and I mean totally flat) tyres on my van due to valve extension problems.
The first time after I noticed I drove to a tyre place and they reinflated for me (no charge). The place was just in sight from when I noticed the flat so very handy.
The second time I was in a field. Borrowed an inflator rated at 300PSI. it would only go to around 40PSI after nearly an hour running as big van tyres are a big job to inflate.
After that experience I knew to get something that could just do the blooming job and not faff around with half-arsed & half-way (non-)solutions and bought the RAC900 Inflator.
I carry this with me so no need to search for places to reinflate, with unknown calibration of gauges after partial inflation.

It is kind of funny that there are threads on this forum about tyre pressures and what to set to; and threads about TPMS systems and what to set warning alerts to; and then a topic that suggests it is ok to drive around with knowingly partially inflated tyres which is - IMHO anyway - not that safe a thing to do (hence my replying in the way I have).
