"I therefore expect the 2011-2012 winter to follow a similar pattern in terms of how November and December was in 2010 for the vast majority of this winter. It will be exceptionally cold and snowy with well below average temperatures. I fully expect to see records broken with the highlands of Scotland being once again particularly hard hit. It is therefore vital to start preparing now in terms of high energy bills and raising awareness amongst the most vulnerable and elderly people of society."

I bloody hope not! we are already planning our christmas jolly!

Funny enough I didn't think the summer was that cold?

Interesting you've found this. I was just thinking that this year the weather pattern has been similar to last year. My conclusion was that it could well be another long cold winter.

S'pose I'd better start checking heating oil prices - the tank is running off fumes at the moment :)

and now is the time to get your winter tyres ordered if your planning to wild camp during the winter months!

hi, unfortunately there as been a world change.winter will soon be ending.summer starts about november .to view it you must go to spain or morrocco. do not return untill end of april.
shame if you have to stay here . next is severe winter, dont like that. nature shows us the way .like the birds fly south. have fun we try to. cheers alan.

Even with all the snow we had two years ago I still managed my weekend in Scotland having driven up from Portsmouth on the Thursdaythen back in time for work on the Monday, only to have people that lived localy try and tell me they couldn,t make it into work on the Monday cause of the weather.

It made me mad after the journy I had made, but they soon came round to getting there a**s into work, as I informed them I would be docking them a days holiday if they stayed at home.

This winter sounds like it could be pretty much the same if the weather man is to be beleived. (they have been known to get it wrong in the past) Saddly I will be in hotter climes but not in my van. Away for xmas for the second year in a row.(some time my job rearly sucks)

Squibby.

On the other hand we may have an Indian Summer. I have lost all faith in weather forecasters we no longer have a public weather forecast.
I used to work with colleagues who would call in to the office at the first snowflake, and some of them drove Chelsea tractors!
My remaining colleagues who did make it in used to have a sweepstake on who would be the first to call in,and usually it was one of the tractor drivers!

hi the rain in spain is mainly in portugal. specially in winter.
portugal is a bit like coming third. morocco first ,spain second ,portugal third.
unfortunately its not that smart in dec ,jan ,feb. by march its warming up.
winter in portugal is abit like this so called summer. jeans thick pullovers/fleece is order of the day.the sun can shine but its not very warm. much nicer than the uk without doubt.
its like brittany i compare with cornwall. maybe just slightly warmer . having said that have gone north to redon and had to return to la baule on winter trips to france.in winter i prefer abit further down somewhere like pornic.
back in portugal i prefer the atlantic coast but can be very windy there. i think you really do have to be on the algarve if you want any kind of warmth. but it can be crowded.
leave brittany in nov. drive to poitiers, perigeux, across to sarlat, gourdon (lovelly lakes and free camping)down to montauban.,toulouse,ax le thermes ,andorra .on to barcelona . then follow the coast all the way round .portugal in march ,possibly mid feb. thats what i would do living where you do. xmas half way down the spanish coast.
cheers alan.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm lovely lovely snow:have fun: love it but only on a weekend please,
we will be on our usual pilgrimage snow cashing routine heading to the lakes or north wales love winter wild camping, waking up in the wild with snow all around, going for a walk then getting back to the Motorhome to warm up with some nice warm soup & Fresh crusty bread;) just watching the snow fall outside whilst we are snug in the warmth of the Van, then when it clears at night looking out at a full moon shining onto the crisp white snow the sight of a Fox running in the night, the cry of an owl the footprints of wild animals around the van in the morning (Was it animal footprints or a beast of the night:rolleyes2:) Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm forgive me waxing lyricaly,,, love the winter in the wilds brings out the child in me again:wacko:,,

In March 2010, most of England, Wales and Scotland were covered in thick snow. While we were up the West coast of Scotland, we only saw sleet once and for a couple of days, I only needed a T-shirt.

And now some good news..........

.....Hurricane Irene has officially been downgraded to a British Summer. :p

I love the british summer! It's my favourite day of the year.
