CAMPERS TYRES and insurance

I think only Factory fitted TPMS are checked. ie such as a warning light or low pressure indicator on the Dash. Aftermarket owner fitted TPMS are not mentioned.

Some tyres have a 'outside', many don't, and others such as my Cross Climates have a rotation direction.
I've not checked, but wonder if the reg applies to vehicles with pressure sensors, had my van MOT'ed last week to the new regs and AFAIK tyre pressures where not checked, as I run different pressures to book figures.

The charts on the wall of the mot station show standard tyre size and pressure for each vehicle.
I remember seeing charts like this decades ago.. but now there are so many more vehicle manufacturers

my garage said the tyre pressure is stamped on the tyre.....

this is the first time i have used this garage - but he has been in business for quite a while doing MOTs'.

My van is registered as MPV - light goods.... but he did say the rules for campers were changing as per my original post.

I think he is, with respect, a bit confused and passing that confusion to the customers.

For a start, the Tyre Pressure stamped on the tyre is neither a recommended or required Tyre Pressure but a MAXIMUM pressure that should not be exceeded.

I believe that the max pressure stamped on the sidewall is meaningless in the UK. It is required for some countries, the USA for one.

Thought it was the red or yellow dot that goes by the valve, opposed to the DOT stamp. Or has the DOT stamp replaced the red/yellow dots?

Still the same I think. The coloured dot (radial run out) and DOT (date) are a bit confusing.

hi my lovely delica passed MOT today with no work needed !!! YEA !!!

i got into a chat about tyres and some of the new regs included checking tyre pressures as per the pressures on the tyres on the van. Mine were fine... Apparently an insurer could now well ask you to prove when you bought new tyres on a motorhome because the regs say you need to change them every 6 years.... the theory being that as motorhomes do less mileage then cars, and can be parked up for significant periods the rubber may degrade....

has anyone else come across this?

I take mine for MOT the week after next, i do not run on camping tyres, i`ll update then if the MOT tester says that it is now part of the MOT.

I`ve had tyre fitters pull a face when i ask them to put the DOT on the outside and they ask why, i tell them because that`s what i want.

If they will not do it then i go somewhere else.

Collette, they are talking bullocks, they do not check the tyre pressures during the MOT, the tester cracked out laughing when i told him :lol-049::lol-049:

Had mine in for test on tuesday and it passed with flying colours
