We’ve got two trips to Italy planned deferred from last year to 2022. Just realised an annoying consequence of the 90 days in 180 rule. To do two 3 month trips Spring and Autumn means leaving at the beginning of March for the first one. That means any Alpine crossings need fully certified winter tyres as Switzerland and Italy now require tyres with snowflake symbol to qualify? Absolutely sure that’s the case for Germany and Austria, but a little uncertain about the other two as to whether M+S with snow chains is ok? My van came with 5 brand new Agilis M+S so I’m in no great rush to buy new tyres at this stage! I was planning going out via Julier Pass and Bernina Pass which stay open in winter. And back by Stelvio Pass...but that doesn’t open until June and we’ll have to be back in Blighty by Late May....Grrrr!

Would they still be a requirement at lower elevations and you drove thru France and used either of the tunnels Mont Blanc or Frejus
