Thank you for replying even though i got the wrong month. Should have read April not March. I will take your advice as read and not tongue in cheek. I thought the gentlemans club met in the Storey Arms car park. Good advice as always.

Hope you have a great time in the Brecons Matthew. Spent a few weeks there last summer & thanks to the advise given on here we had a great time, luckily we didn't need the wellies:) plenty of places to park & found the people were really friendly. Thinking on a return trip this year.
Regards Nolly.

Thanks Nolly

Even though i know the area well i have only just strarted Wilding there. All the feedback so far has been positive. There spots mentioned in earlier threads have been in town which i am am very grateful for. I am more interested in staying in theheart of the mountains Ie. between Talybont and Pontsticill. Do the boy racers venture off track that far? Hopefully not. Park up,good days walking /running and back to a van that is hopefully still in one peace.Nolly thanks for your time. Good wilding

Try to stay away from the towns and also avoid the main roads, anywhere else will be great,it is a lovely place.:)

good advice about the towns and main roads ,we did stay in merther quite a few times on the uni car park and the leasure center. there were a couple of trucks on the uni ,ok the hot hatch lot were there but apart from being a bit noisy for a while were no trouble . and the leasure center was quiet .ps both the car parks are covered with cctv. the ponstical ,and talybont area is great and there looks to be a few places to stay overnight ,although we dident stay we found brecon great all in all you cannot fail to find a nice wild camp in the brecons

Cwm Gwdi

Once again Mandrake bang on with your advice. Brecon is very camper friendly with the Prominade and Wotton carpark both very central and displaying you are allowed to stay overnight one night in seven. How this is policed i dont know.As i was after easy access to the mountains i ended up in a very quiet place called Cwm Gwdi. This car park is tucked away in the lanes between Brecon town and Pen y Fan. If you are entering Brecon on the Merthyr road ,a half a mile on the left into Brecon is a pub called The Drovers. Turn right here and follow this road for approx 2 miles. The old Cwm Gwdi army camp is sign posted.More or less one road / lane all the way. If you want access to the mountains, total peace and quiet, no road noise and no idiots this could be for you. Once again thanks for your time

Just a quick reply to the last post... we are currently parked up at Cwmgwdi. For future reference, drive past the obvious car park area which has a gentle downward slope. You will reach the end of the lane where there is a much more level parking area, out of the way and right at the foot of Pen y Fen - walking, running, mountain biking from the door. The approach lane is pretty narrow but we managed to squeeze up in our LWB Sprinter! Shame it's raining.... again

How is the Drovers? My first pub so many years ago. At that time a farmer called Bil Cwm Gwdi used to drink there and was a great laugh. we used to camp in his field at, Yes Cwm Gwdi.:D Also 30 years ago the campers used to camp at the old prison which is now the large stone block of flats on the right as you enter Brecon from the Merthyr road and befor you get to the Drovers. Of course the army was in profussion around there then and were my best customers, although I think we had the smallest bar in Brecon and in summer used to serve beer out of the window onto the pavement. No cellar there then. We stillaged behind the bar and the beer was in Hogs. Is it still the same? Happy days

Thanks Mandrake - this is our 3rd night at Cwmgwdli and we are probs heading down to the Quantocks tomorrow eve for some more mountain bike action - we won't have the time for Gpwer as we have to be in Dorset for Thursday and really should catch a ferry back home to France early next week! The 2-3 week trip has turned into a 4-5 week trip thanks to the comfort of Sadie our Sprinter!

well have a nice time the weather was great yesterday and is today .have a safe trip

just to add another overnight stay carpark to the list for future ref.

We found a really quiet overnight stay carpark off the road and secluded at the Pontsticill reservoir. Plenty of trees for shade and several picnic tables but no other facitilties. There is room for at least 10x MH's and its possible to park facing and right at the edge of the Pontsticill reservoir . When we visited at 11am last Saturday it was completly deserted.

Thanks for the update - this spot is already in the POI download :)
