Our motorhome came with a dometic gas oven and grill, unfortunately we don't have a microwave. My wife likes baked potatoes, but says it takes nearly two hours to cook them, she puts the oven on 6 which is the top setting, pricks the potatoes and puts them in tin foil. Any experienced cooks out there with any suggestions to make the process quicker without having to resort to carrying a microwave oven with us.

You're welcome to park beside me anytime and throw them in my fire, takes 30 minutes tops ☺ they also come with a nice smokey flavour.
Failing that could you part boil them first?

Spuds are us Dave ,treat elaine 🤪

Wouldn't they bake quicker without the tin foil? I would have thought 45 minutes ample time for a medium size spud. Rub a bit of oil on the outside to make it crispy.

bake them at home, wrap in foil and 20 mins in the oven unwrapped

never tried it but sounds ok

Stick them naked on a spike It cooks the middle fasterhttps://www.ebay.co.uk/p/Kitchen-Craft-Potato-Oven-Baker-Baking-Rack-Jacket-Potatoes-4-Spike-Kcbaker/1305089483

We use a metal skewer. Halves the cooking time. Microwaved ones are rubbish in our thoughts.

I use a metal skewer or 2 pushed in lengthwise. Never understood the use of tin foil unless in an open fire or rubbing salt on the skin.

Thanks everyone, So the general consensus is she should not wrap them in tinfoil and should put a skewer through them to cook them quicker. I'll have great pleasure in telling her tomorrow, unfortunately cooking was never her forte, hence why I find it better to eat out most of the time, but are finding eating out in France is a lot more expensive than eating out in Spain.

I put them in boiling water for 10 minutes or so. Then bake in over with out tin foil

Camp or dutch oven

On the hob.
As has been said
1 parboil (50%) then
2 dutch oven to 100%
3 Finally maybe cut in half use oven or grill for 10-15mins to dry and crisp.
We sometimes cut in half and put on Cadac BBQ to finish

I expect the ridge monkey experts might know about slicing thickly and "gorilla-ing" !

Parboil cut 1/2
Place cut side down on heavy frying pan minimal oil but tight fitting lid then grill/oven to finish

Skewers?

Do skewers transfer the heat to the center of said spud quicker than unskewered spuds then?
We don’t mind how long they take to cook, I like to melt butter and coat the skin in it pre cooking, with plenty salt and pepper rubbed onto buttered skin, my other half uses olive oil in place of butter.....mine are the best!

That is exactly what happens, to speed up the process, par boil and finish in the oven is the way to go even keep for a day or two and then re heat in a hot oven. Silver foil really is for open fires to prevent charring and retain moisture within the spud ,,you don't want too much moisture retaining which is why they should be pricked with a fork

Butter , baked beans and cheese a nice combo

Remoskas whilst I don't think are significantly quicker do superb Jacket potatoes

Well last night my wife decided she wanted a baked potato, so she did as recommended and par boiled the potatoes for 10 minutes, rubbed a bit of oil on the skin and cooked it in less than half the time, so thank you for the tips, just need to see if we can find a metal potato spike whilst in France, I have one happy wife now who has been moaning how slow the Dometic oven and grill was.
