As my search for a low profile 6 metre van seems to be fruitless I'm wondering how many of the members use a 7 metre van to willd camp and if you do how do you get on with it?
I'm only asking as I've seen loads of them for sale, I must point out that I have a Easylifter Hydra-Trail that will add about another metre or so to it whne in use.
As usual any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Del

What price are you hoping to pay

9.5 metre wild camp all over only a problem in towns, park on industrial estate and walk in

We wildcamp 6.5m coachbuilt

As much as we can...
We have a 6.5m coachbuilt (see Avatar) but we manage pretty well..

I would say that at least 50% of the UK locations are either unsuitable for the vehicle or our preferences..
But that still leaves loads.
France and Germany and Italy we have found very good (not been to Spain)
Also Scandinavia very very good (Sweden in particular for proper wildcamping)

Ours is 7.6mtr and never had a problem , just use your loaf and don't take. it silly places

Don’t buy anything larger than you need.
We have parked up in car parks with our 6m van were even another half metre would have made it impossible. Then you have problems with overhang, weight, and simply manoeuvring larger vehicles.
Ferry fees if you intend going abroad or our own islands.

Most 6m vans have at least 600kg payloads, (ours chausson 510 750kg) whereas their 7.5m equivalents May have only around 350kg. Our van has all we need, kitchen, drop down bed, separate toilet and shower, and plenty of storage, and it’s a 4 berth. We have had six people sitting in our lounge.
Also the smaller the van more unobtrusive it is, and less chance of upsetting locals.
Never buy a van with less than 500kg payload. It’s ironic massive garages loads of cupboards and small payload.

There are plenty of 6m vans out there. I am currently trading my van in for another 6m van.

Take care enjoy yourself whatever you buy.

We have 6.2 metres.
Anything longer or with an overhang, has problems getting up our donkey -track lane.
Keeps the riff raff away.
We spend at least 5 to 7months a year, comfortably full timing in it.

Well over 10m when towing trailer.
Some spots just are not viable.
Some, like the one in my photo, are no problem.

Regarding payloads.

Our present 7 metre 3500kg Hynmer Exsis has a 730kg payload and we can carry a scooter (axle weights are ok)

Our previous 7 metre Hymer A Class had over 1000kg payload, but was a 4500kg van. (it was 3500kg empty)

Beware that factory and dealer fitted extras eat into published pay load figures

Great van *****.
Hymer are good at keeping the weight down and quality up.

I have just bought a Pegaso 590 with a 635kg payload.
The other two in the range the 740 and 745 art 7.5m vans with only 350kg payloads.

Enjoy your van it looks a cracker.

I think that the only regular problem with a 7m van over a 6m one would be fitting it in spaces made for cars on a car park. We find that by using spaces at the edge of car parks to leave the rear over the grass we can park in spaces made for cars. Certainly useful at many supermarkets where it’s sometimes hard to find two spaces to occupy. Wouldn’t think that it’s a big enough problem to stop me getting a 7m van if it suited otherwise though.

I used to have a 9m van, now 7.4m and never had any issues. There is an odd location that’s not suitable but not that many in my experience.

Our van is 7.8mtrs long but I always have the hand cycle on the bike rack so that may add another metre, maybe a bit less not measured. We dont have any problems getting or going where we want except parking spaces in car parks. If they dont have any coach/caravan spaces then I need two spaces in line, we can get in and out the cab doors okay at that but would need at the end for hab door.

The truck is somewhere between 8 and 8.5m, and some spots will be excluded, but many are not.

We've now been in a bunch of pubs as well, and it's been fine as long as it's not a tiny place.

Never stopped me I’m near on 9 meters and can get myself onto spots that I’ve seen people not being able to get a T5 on. A lot is to do with confidence in you’re own ability think outside the box and a wee bit of forward planning.

Any length van is OK for Wild Camping it just depends on where you want to wild really , just get the van you are comfortable with and go for it, I have seen some huge vans wilding in the past some even with huge trailers too., take a look at these two HGVs converted for living in and wilding.

No problem at all. If your carrying a scooter on that hydrotrail rack just stay out of towns as you can use the scooter.
