Anyone getting a 19 Plate Today

Non of that rubbish here, folk on mainland always state plate rather than year which is more important.
Tip,always register a new veh on jan the first because if you leave to dec and after xmas its tech classed as a year old even though its only weeks old,old tip from motor trade.
90% of all new reges here are in january, the other 10% are fools.

the current plate system does make valuation easier as opposed to the prefix of b reg etc either 84 /85 . December can be a good time to buy a used car dealers liquidating stock to make way for part exchanges, there again March can be a good time to buy used ,dealers balancing stock levels ,,,next couple of weeks some bargains to be had in the auctions

True as after xmas 4 year old cars at auction go for buttons here as dealers move them on and will not sell retail in case probs with expensive brains etc to which they would have to foot the repair bill.
My new to me car at this age with 27 thu on clock one owner bought for £1.900 cash in hand,no one wants cars here over 3/4 years old, have to keep up with the jones.

Sadly no  but a 19 plate car has magically appeared overnight on a neighbours drive, so i presume he picked it up at midnight

Daughter s s reg pug 306 went for mot yesterday, couple of brake pipes and suspension bits and bobs 275 quid . Good for another year.

Can,t find a new MH which suits us , ours is 3 years old, but picking up a new car next week, wifey has a private plate so who cares if its a 19 reg???

Getting a19 plate.

Sweet n sour balls from the local Chinese tonight.

I'll get me coat.

the most i have ever paid for a car in my life is £1100 - and that is my current StreetKA (its a 2 seater ford fiesta with a soft-top). The van cost me £10k probably worth £2-4k more now.... i have never understood why folks spend fortunes on cars other than to boast.

I recall heading out at midnight on 1st January 1976 on my 400/4. I’d waited till then thinking that it would keep it’s value better as a 76 than a 75. Still got it 43 years later and I think that my patience has had little effect on its value.

I paid £800 for my little Honda , 53 mpg 60+ on a longish run plenty of space for me and not really swayed by having latest on the block,

New cars can make sense to lot of people, limited mechanical ability perhaps full warrantys (manufacturer backed) comprehensive breakdown cover, low rate finance deals complete breakdown and recovery. Lots of manufactrers offering deposits couple of thousand pounds in some cases, the overall effect is it can work out cheaper than something 18 months old. The twist of course is it does impact on used values.

Back in the day selling Granada Scorpios and Mercedes 190 s at auction one always had to be mindful in the Fords case what a new one could be bought for Mercedes didn't at the time discount so stronger resale, that was borne out in the fleet market where a Merc was cheaper to rent as opposed to the Ford despite having a significant higher list price,

Only winner ultimately is the manufacturers

Given current values a canny buy as you Scots say

I recall back in the 80's, Car Dealers used to have big "New Reg" parties and there was a stream of folk driving away after midnight in their spanking new cars.

I heard that is was always a bad time to pick up a new car just on new-reg day as the PDIs tended to be skimped due to time constraints and workload.

Only time I have 'owned' a brand new car was when it was actually a company car - they just loose too much money driving off the forecourt IMO - usually gone for nearly new/demos less than 6 month old (current one bought at 4 months old and was registered the day before the Road Tax rules changed - so costs £30/yr instead of the £140/yr it would be for the same car 1 day newer)

Used to buy a new car every 2 or 3 years, and not lose money.
My time in Germany with BFG, meant we could buy tax free, and two/three years later sell it on.
My aim was not to make money, which I did not, but to have a new car each time.
Escort XR3i cabriolet, Escort RS Turbo (MK5) and Honda Accord 2.2i

I had one of those in burgundy.

No thanks, I got a 18 last year and it ain’t worn out yet. Best to buy a 6 week old 1400 mile old ex-demo and save over £8k 👍
