just wondered if anyone had any advice/info about keeping a ferret as a pet.i met one in glasgow and was captivated but hubby needs convincing and i do need to know more. would appreciate if anyone has any experience of looking after them to pass on info. carol

should be kept in pairs. females can die if they dont have sex, or given some drug. er...pretty smart, can smell, painful bite.

i dont like em, i dont dislike em either, there ok. but i wouldnt have one as a pet (or 2 as they should be kept)

brilliant pets
always get females snipped, and you can get anal glands removed too. so they don't smell.
always have multiples, as they very sociable animals.
Yes they do bite sometimes, but its not as painful as people make out

i wouldnt say brilliant. very good yes......not brilliant.

i only know what i do, cos my ex had 4.....and i was stuck with them, when she ran off with my mate (who we had put up for 4 days as he wife ran off with someone else...........)

bite wise, i have had worse bites, stings etc. from snakes and insects and arachnids. they can give a nip, but its more of the human reaction to pull away. just have a little confidence and let them get to know your smell

they are pretty smart, so need to be stimulated...they care very very good and cold temps, but i belive warm//hot temps are bad. (i mean before you would expect to be bad)

i dont like ferrets as such, but i can think of many worse pets.

get a guinea pig,they're small,eat little,and only last about 3 years.perfect pet
