  1. Electrical problem with newly installed replacement Thule doorstep

OK, I fess up. I should have been more specific. Physically, it is quite different and I was unable to re-use the mounting points used by the old one.
  2. Electrical problem with newly installed replacement Thule doorstep

That's all well and good, Merl, but I think you must have missed that this is a replacement step, not a new installation. Functionally, and electrically, the new step is identical to the old one apart from the changed colors of the power wires. Other options for wiring up may exist, but are...
  3. Electrical problem with newly installed replacement Thule doorstep

@Pudsey Bear has put up the schematic. Thule assume you are wiring direct to a power source of some sort and the switch is in circuit with the motor. With the Sargent installed, the switching logic is in the EC400: the switch is just an input device.
  4. Electrical problem with newly installed replacement Thule doorstep

Yes, there is nothing appearing on either wire or across them. By profession, I was an electrical engineer, so I tested function (did it run in and out when connected to a 12V source), current draw and PD across the motor.
  5. Electrical problem with newly installed replacement Thule doorstep

The Thule doorstep on our Autocruise Rhythm packed up a couple of years again and I've finally got around to changing it. The new Omnistep is quite different from that installed in 2014, but I got it installed physically. However, I cannot get it to play with the Sargent E440 control unit. All...
  6. NZ to ban vans without toilets

I agree, but there is zero chance of enforcement. Who's going to catch them and how do they prove the mess was theirs? Sadly, having a blanket ban is the only way to go in such a sparsely populated country.
  7. New Years Eve

We'll probably be parked up in a car park on coast somewhere in Tier 2. Norfolk or the Wash seem favourite right now.
  8. Where has all the Calor Gas gone?

We finally found a garage in Brecon that had some 6kg bottles, so I handed over the empty 3.9 and the partially full 3.9 in exchange. That should keep us going until we get home next week.
  9. Where has all the Calor Gas gone?

If it hadn’t been for the shutdown we wouldn’t be using Calor at all. We had planned to have an underslung tank by now.
  10. Where has all the Calor Gas gone?

Buy them then: if they really do have stock.
  11. Where has all the Calor Gas gone?

Since posting, we’ve moved on to Mid Wales and the situation is unchanged. Stopped at 3 Calor stockists on way and all were sold out. highbridge caravans even had a custom sign up outside. two places in Newport and Raglan had none, but the latter did have 1 3.9 so we took it.
  12. Where has all the Calor Gas gone?

No 6kg bottles to be had in SW England or South Wales. Managed to get a 3.9kg in Ilfracombe but that’s all.
  13. What constitutes dampness?

Our MH has been sitting in storage over the winter. I've just got it back and decided to go over it with a damp meter: mainly after a discussion elsewhere got me wondering. Mostly I'm getting readings of 1-2%, but in a couple of places this goes up to 15%: including the soft furnishings. Is this...
  14. Removing stuck TV bracket

I knew there was a screw. The problem was it had no means of removal. I removed it eventually with a screw remover. examining it revealed that whoever tightened it managed to strip the internal hex socket. It was so tight it was embedded in the fixed bracket.
  15. Removing stuck TV bracket

@oppy The moveable part of the bracket is stuck lower than the catch, so it's not that. @Borders2 I suspect the existence of a screw, but the only potential candidate (just below the boss) has no obvious screw thread or evidence of a hex socket. It looks smooth inside the hole.
  16. Removing stuck TV bracket

We've just bought a 2014 Autocruise Rhythm. It has a TV installed on an articulated bracket. We have no interest in TV in the 'van (we camp to get away from the damned thing), but I can't get the bracket apart. It has a fixed part and a removable part on a morse taper of some sort. There...
  17. Well, I'm here.

Hi all I've been camping all my life, much of it wild in the UK. However, I am new to motorhomes and therefore new to wild camping in a motorhome. My Romahome is self-contained for pretty long trips, with stops for provisions, gas and fuel and emptying the porta-potti. I am recently retired and...
