The heater in our Kontiki has finally packed up. All burnt out at the back. For a while it only worked on number 4 (the highest setting) if you belted it and just left it on permanently. Ive just driven it in for service as the initial step to getting back on the road again (lots to do) and it needs a heater control panel (the full thing).

Nobody can supply our garage with this as they dont keep these parts anymore.

Anyone know where I might source one? Breakers yard or is there a specialist somewhere?

Not really a problem just now but will be come winter!

I am bumping this post because Barry is a friend of mine. He is the first to offer help to others and his blog 'Hank the Tank' has been invaluable for anyone travelling in Europe.

If you can help then please do.

Thanks.

Bump from me too as I have a Ducato of similar vintage... be good to know these parts are available.

Thanks chaps.

It does seem to becoming a problem getting parts for older vehicles although 1996 is hardly ancient!

I'm only guessing, but at that age how complex is the control panel? I would guess it's only a couple of rotary switches or a rheostat. A decent electronics guy should be able to knock one up from components on the shelf I'd have thought.

What make is the heater? Does the company still exist? Cos they would be my first port of call to see if there is an updated control panel (or even a new heater) that might fit. Do you have the manual? Maybe the maker could supply a wiring diagram for it so it would be easy to rebuild?

I don't even now what sort of heater it is - gas convector, blown air, gas or diesel with heat exchanger (like Webasto, Eberspatcher or Propex) so very hard to give specific advice or ideas, but I hope some of the above trigger an idea for you.

Thanks

Its not the habitation heating its the standard Peugeot Cab heater for when your driving (on the dash). The knob that you turn for the fan has packed up. It worked on the highest setting until recently but not at all now. Even if they could just fit a switch to turn it on full wack as and when would be better than nothing.

In that case google "heater control, '96 ducato" (or whatever) & you will almost certainly be offered a scrap yard search engine. It will offer you a form to fill in with your & the van's details - it may also take a couple of quid off you, but some are free to the customer. Your info is then sent to all scrappies on their books & they will send you a quote for the part if they have it. It's then up to you to choose one & buy it.

But I'd have thought Fiat would have them in stock, or easily ordered, but maybe rather pricey.

Aha young Barry, now I see the problem.

What has packed up is the variable resistor that controls the fan speed. A Rheostat I think is the correct term. The good news is that other people have been able to get round the problem. A competent auto electrician should be able to sort something out.

As has been posted, do a google using 'Ducato heating control problem' or similar. You might get some detail of how others got round it.

Thanks. All useful info.

Been tied up all day so have not had chance to pursue any of the suggestions but just got the van back and the faulty resister thing so took some photos just now.

The first photo is the front panel with the fan knob on the right and the other two are the front and back of the resistor behind. B837 I think it says on it.

I did try one of the online parts finder sites last night but have not heard anything back. Now I have a bit more useful info will try again. Cheers all!

Would it not be interchangeable with many Pug/FIAT/Citroen car parts as well as vans? Worth a snuff about a scrappy maybe with the old part with you.

Yes, it does look a pretty generic item. Ring round a few local scrappies to se if they have a pug/cit/fiat van of the right age & go have a look.

Thanks. I have a few good leads now so will start ringing round. Thanks for all your help.

Someone will have one surely.

Cheers
