Redcar - anyone recommend a decent battery fitter?

I think my main vehicle battery is dying and I'm going to be spending the weekend near Redcar. Does anyone know where I could get a new battery fitted at a decent price in the Redcar area?

There`s always Halfords and they will fit it for you for £6.99.

Check website for prices, they have branches in Middlesborough.

Thanks, as fitting it myself is going to be fiddly and I'm going to be spending the weekend with my mother and won't have scruff gear / tools etc with me, I'd rather just pay a bit extra and have it fitted even if I have to wait. The Halford's fitting price isn't bad at all, so I might go for them, as I think there's one at the Teeside park shopping centre which I'll be driving right past. It'll have a good 100 mile run tomorrow so I'll see what the battery is like on Sunday after standing overnight. I think the glow plugs are dying too so they need replacing asap. Am having to run the engine every day otherwise it won't start after more than 3 days standing.

I can only recommend a delivered and fit it yourself supplier in Car Batteries, buy online with our Car Battery Finder. Prices inc delivery

This looks a good supplier, if I can order tonight or tomorrow and have it delivered to my mum's on Monday I might have a go at fitting myself. I'll definitely probably use this site for a new leisure battery which I think is also starting to die :mad2:

At least the leisure battery is only really powering some LED lights and mobile phone charger as I don't really need the fridge at the moment (it's just a little beer fridge, effectively just a 12v cool box) which hammers the battery and so I can only use it for a few hours on the hottest days in the summer or whilst engine is running. The leisure battery is recharging but not holding full charge but has enough charge to power LEDs so long as I run the engine the next day. Can't complain, I've had it a year, it spent a month discharged whilst the van was off the road for MOT repairs, and it was free, second hand out of someone's caravan when they got a new leisure battery. So I've had my money's worth out of it :lol-053:

Hi There, make sure you ring the particular branch to see if they have the right one in.

I just fitted a new one in my 2006 Peugeot Boxer and it was a " Pig of a Job "...............LOL .....due to the weight and the fact that it has to
go in lengthways .

If you do go with them and there is a problem at least your local branch will sort it out for you.

Thanks for the tip Wooie, good thinking. I shouldn't expect any less from a Lancashire lad ;)

I will ring first, but I'll probably be ok as it's a Ford Transit, that's why I got a Tranny, easy to get parts. The battery is under the drivers seat and because of the dog's cage you can't get at it from the back of the van and the seat will only slide forward so far and it's going to be a pig of a job to get the old one out I think, which is why I like the idea of a fixed price and someone else doing it!

So unless it's easy to take the whole seat out, I don't fancy doing it myself. And if they do have to take the seat out, then I get the chance to watch to see how it's done :lol-053:

Transit battery

I have a Transit van fitted with a bulkhead so same sort of set up push drivers seat fully forward then wind seat back fully forward then the space is not to bad for getting at the battery.

Thanks Dave, that's what I did when I wired in the leisure battery but it's blooming awkward for working in that position. Glad I'm not a beefy 6 footer.

Also my battery terminals aren't great and I struggled to get the croc clips of the jump leads to stay on, they kept jumping off (ha :lol-053:, geddit?)

But to update you, someone has just offered me a battery for free out of an ex vehicle of theirs and they are only "down the road" (30 miles away) and he's an auto electrician :D so I'm going to pop down and sort that with him next week after I get home from mum's. Hopefully a 2 hour run to mums tomorrow will help and so long as I run it daily I'm going to take a chance over the weekend. I've got jump leads, a power pack and full breakdown recovery cover so as long as I get to mum's ok tomorrow, at least I know I can get home again courtesy of the breakdown cover ;)

But I think I'll get new plugs sorted asap especially as I don't need to fork out for a new battery urgently now, I wonder if Halfords would do that too. I'll check online.

Thanks to everyone for your help. I'm sure I'll be posting here if I end up bored and sitting around for several hours waiting for breakdown to rescue me...

does your tranny not have connections under the bonnet for jump starting as a hired one I had once had an under seat battery go flat and that had them, the only tranny I've owned was an older one and both batteries were under the bonnet.

They will do the plugs, you just need one that does " Servicing " as well as the shop. We have 2 in Preston 1 with and 1 without the
Service Bays. They did " Buy Out " Nationwide Autocentres the other year so look at them as well :-

Halfords Autocentre -Half Price MOTs £27.42

I know a lot of people do`nt like Halfords but, i`ve always found them OK

jess just a thought get yourself a boiler suit and just keep it in the van for the time that you are out and dressed up to the nines so if you have a problem then you can just put it over whatever you are wearing and dont have to think about getting it grubby and can be usefull if ever you get soaking wet at least you have something dry to slip on whilst sorting yourself out

Battery try this company on E-bay

eBay My World - cheap-batteries-uk

Used this company for a battery for my C3. It was about half the price of Kwik-fit & delivered within 24hrs. Heavy duty with a four year guarantee. If you can get through this weekend could be worth a look.

Oak rd Motor factors, just off the Stray, corner of Oak rd and Walnut Grove. I'm sure Shaun or one of the lads will fit a battery for a damsel in distress.

you want to get the glow plugs test fist .as it might not be them ?

Find out if there is a eurocarparts nearby, they have 20% off offer at the moment and that will undercut all the online prices and it is much cheaper than Halfrauds.
