Anyone else up at Lytham this weekend? I did see a hymer on the main road with a big w on the front. Fylde council have a questionnaire at the moment about restricting motorhome numbers on the ymca car park and northbeach car park. Because the amount of vans on the ymca car park are affecting local businesses. I had a look yesterday and it was packed with vans was a few with tables and chairs out on the upper wall having a bbq kids bikes and other stuff all over the place others with chairs out. Same today bays taken up next to vans with tables and chairs heard people in cars calling them the slang for travellers because they could not park. Then you have northbeach carpark its massive very rarely quarter full in the day and empty at night it has been restricted to overnighting in the 10 designated motorhome bays only. 1 today had a fylde council van parked in it for a few hours why one of the workers rode round on his bike. Then another had a horse box wagon in it. Not like the car park had no room on it maybe had a max of 20 cars on it.

We parked up in one of the designated motorhome spots in Lytham. I spoke to a couple who told me that they were from Birmingham and came to the car park each year and spent a couple of months there, tables, parasols out, kids riding around on their bikes etc. ! Told me not to bother putting a ticket on unless you saw a council van, I mentioned to them that we would never consider not paying because we were fortunate to have this facility and would not abuse it, they just laughed. No wonder authorities are reconsidering options for motorhome parking when abuses like this are happening.

In Spain the rules are clearly signed, local police will move on and even fine anybody abusing the rules. Why do authorities here put up with until it is so bad that they ban everybody. Anybody breaking rules on the road gets targeted and dealt with, they don’t ban all cars from the roads. All they need to do is put up signs clearly explaining the rules and punish only those who break them.

Well said, my thoughts exactly. It would help if overnight stays were time limited, perhaps 3 nights max.

Was there at the weekend seen that lot having barbecue breakfast, tables and chairs out etc, was told by my wife not to say anything to them, she does not like making a scene, what gets me is the beach is metres in front of them and so much nicer than the pavement, just don't get it.

Yeah seen that Saturday morning not sure if it was 2 vans together the amount of stuff out on the top wall. It was Sunday afternoon I went past when people were complaining. Seen similar last weekend up at fleetwood signs clearly state no furniture out or other camping related activity and there was a big a class across 4 bays and then table and chairs out at the back in another bay. Not too bad on this car park as it always seems empty but again no one enforcing the rules. I don't get how Fylde have got a questionnaire online about making changes because the salters wharf is very busy then they go and change the big carpark to 10 only overnight:confused: making people then go and fill salters wharf. But at least they have been supporting the use of stopping overnight in there carparks and plan on opening 2 more up.

Think we can all be quite shocked at the instant , often heavy , fines imposed in Spain etc . Get the impression that it works

The few are are going to ruin it for those that have respect for locals and the amenities that their communities provide. It has become so popular as well. We have seen areas that had 4-5 vans on a winter weekend 6 years ago now having 40!!! Crazy

Yes I totally agree.
Every pastime has a bad element, are we are no exception.
But we are the only ones who get banned from these places.
Controls backed up by heavy fines are what’s required.
But that takes resources, putting up barriers and signage being the normal solution.:(

I can think of no other group of people who care more about local communities we visit, who accept that we have idiots amongst us, and accept that some need to be sorted out through punishment and fines than us. But sadly I can think of no other group of people than us who suffer from people who know nothing about us, who we are, and what we do. What we need more than anything are forward thinking people in local communities who view us for what we are. The fact that we come on here and complain about whats going on in Lytham just about sums us up to a tee. But sadly the combination of a few idiots and narrow minded NIMBYS has a very adverse affect on us all.

I agree with Fisherman, but make the fines pay for the enforcement.

Harry I get your drift, but if you are hit with say a £200 fine for breaking the rules, I don’t think these rules would be broken enough times to pay for the enforcement of them. I reckon the fines need to be a real deterrent to have the desired affect. Some folk just need educating the hard way.

How about overnight means just that - overnight, then p**** off (pull off) so others can use the space. Isn't that the point of a motorhome / campervan? More than 1 night smacks of greed/white trash, not necessity. So why not visit the highlands instead!? Here Motorhomes and Campervans with their on-board sleeping, cooking, cleaning, toilet and refuse disposal facilities are actively being discouraged from using off-road parking places to overnight by the Highland Council. In their infinite wisdom however, cars and vans with no such facilities are allowed to continue littering, burning the grass with BBQs, pitting and shissing everywhere and generally behaving like spoilt children, doggers, tokers, vandals, philanderers or young people just enjoying themselves abeit noisily.
Apologies if that flies in the face of white entitlement. Never mind I'm off to take my dog to s**t on the beach, or maybe I'll wrap it in a plastic bag then drop it when no-one's watching so it can't decompose for another 500 years, because there aren't any trees to hang it from. That just about covers it. First world problems eh! What are we like?

It’s not based on logic, it’s based on ignorance.
Ignorance about us, ignorance about our vans, and ignorance about what’s required to sort out a problem created by, yes you guessed it, ignorance.
