Sorry, I'm sure that this will have been covered but the search function won't allow 'TV' on it's own. Please redirect me if you know where it's covered.

I want to watch a bit of live TV while I'm away. I have an Android tablet and have seen some USB tuners but having read about them in a bit more detail, it's uncertain if they'll actally work. Has anyone else got a 'lightweight' TV option? I suppose I could get a small lcd tv & use an inverter, but is there anything else?

Thanks

Thanks for the link, looks interesting, must confess that it's a bit beyond my budget though maybe also a bit too big to store hidden out of sight in my van.
Does it work ok with an aerial?

check out 12v tv on ebay. There are many. Also smaller ones and cheaper ones without the DVD player. Yes you will need an aerial.

Thanks. That looks like the way to go.
I use my tablet for reading books & was hoping to keep the number of devices to a minimum, but maybe an extra screen is needed.
About the aerial, is the reception generally ok with a small aerial?

Try FILMON on your tablet, click on UK LIVE TV so long as you can connect to the internet, be aware it can use quite a bit of data.

I have just bought a Sniper 22" 12 volt TV with DVD player (£180) Really good picture and sound OK Current draw less than 3 Amps

Thanks for all of your replies & suggestions. I take the point about leaving the TV behind, but on dark & wet evenings it's good sometimes to be able to watch a bit of live TV.
I've remembered that I have a couple of old laptops doing nothing so while they're a bit heavy and will need 240v to recharge, maybe that's another option along with a USB TV adapter.

No a 19v buck inverter leat will charge it from cigy socket,it lifts the volts from 12 to 19 ,there on sale on ebay,as for tv i bought a cello and got a 12v lead for it cost about 7 bucks, the tv came of facebook market place for 25 bucks, works 100%

I had a Cello 12v tv that had rechargeable battery’s that was okay until I broke the screen 😩
For a couple of months I used a 32” tv from home as a stop gap but it was too big. I now have a 22” Sharp Smart Tv that is 12 or 230v and is excellent. I rarely bother with the aerial an just use Freeview Play, Netflix, YouTube etc over the internet. They do smaller sizes.

If you have a tablet you should be able to download apps to play BBC, ITV Channel 4 and most other channels you may want. If I was parked somewhere with no TV signal I would watch F1 on my iPad, it’s just a smaller screen 👍

Yep, I did wonder about reception quality.
Don't really want to spend a load of money on a TV only to find there's no signal.
I'll maybe stick with my tablet and download films & TV to it.

For the rare occasion that my roof mounted dish cannot lock on to the satellite or if the wind is severe I recently bought an Avtex aerial for use inside the motorhome.
Used it last week in Cumbria by basically standing it on a shelve. Without any adjustment had a perfect picture and loads of channels, thought I must have been lucky with alignment but used it again on drive whilst working in motorhome and again no direction adjustment and it worked. Not the cheapest aerial but takes power from the Avtex tv and works great.

Quite agree, one of the great advantages of wilding is no bloody telly!
Well each to their own I say.
I have everything in the motorhome I have at home, no roughing it for me lol.
Being a widower I travel on my own so no partner to keep me entertained ! I enjoy reading and using the internet and dog walking but being an avid sport fan won’t miss test matches and football, also like to keep up to date with the news.
So auto satellite, sky box ensure I don’t miss my sport.

I use a 12v TV, but also have sky go on an ipad (if you have sky) and use mobile data

To be honest these days thats what I prefer although I use a laptop with a dedicated 12v charger. I have a Camos Satellite Dome on the roof and a 16" 12v TV but I much prefer watching series and films I download before I go away. Get hold of a long running series like Game of Thrones or Breaking bad. Binge watch that for a couple of weeks.

or if your tablet takes a data sim look for an unlimited data package and you can just stream UK TV onto that live. Bit of a faff but perfectly doable. It uses a lot of data though so unlimited or a high allowance is best.

I just love the phrase "no partner to keep me entertained". I'd say "to give me grief" personally, but then I'm a miserable old sod.
